"The cornerstone for Samuel Woodfill Elementary was laid on July 22, 1922. The school is named for Army Maj. Samuel Woodfill, who, at various points in his life was stationed and resided in Fort Thomas. He was one of the most decorated soldiers of World War I." stated Kara Uhl in an article published to celebrate the 100th birthday of Woodfill Elementary. Today, we strive to honor his legacy though our school mission statement:
The students and staff of Woodfill Elementary will communicate their ideas, emotions, and content in a variety of ways with clarity, such that the traits of respect and leadership are profound.
Woodfill Elementary is a school home to more than 410 students and 55 staff. We are a Leader in Me school and a two time National Blue Ribbon school winner. According the the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, "Fort Thomas is a unique community with a strong commitment to education. A variety of stakeholders including students, teachers, support staff, administration, parents, our school board, and education foundation all strive to achieve the common goal of supporting and providing the best educational experience for students. The cornerstone of the Woodfill experience is our emphasis on leadership, student ownership of learning, and finding opportunities to communicate in a variety of ways. Through a culture of shared ownership the entire school has a voice in our common practices, implementation of new ideas, academic goals, and a positive school environment. Woodfill has a technology-rich environment where students and teachers thrive in a 1:1 setting where collaboration, creativity, innovation, and demonstration of learning can take place in a variety of ways.
At its core Woodfill creates a positive school culture where students, teachers, and parents feel safe and supported to create a learning rich environment. Students are encouraged to use their voice to demonstrate their learning and be leaders. We want our students to have a strong sense of ownership in both their learning and what their school should be throughout their entire Woodfill career."
